The glory of the Lord

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Ezekiel 1:28 which says,

“Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell face down, and I heard the voice of one speaking.”

Okay, so this is Ezekiel speaking and he says that he saw a man and that what he saw was the glory of the Lord. So naturally he fell face down. Why? Because when you see the Lord you have to give him worship. Ezekiel (like all of us) was sinful, and he had to bow down to the Lord.

And Ezekiel is a picture of us and Jesus, how? Well like I said we were sinful and would have to bow down to the Lord. But because we were sinful, no matter if we bow down, we should die. Because we weren’t perfect and we didn’t have a perfect sacrifice (and couldn’t find one in the whole world), we should have died. But God supplied that sacrifice for us.

But didn’t I say that we couldn’t find a perfect sacrifice on earth? Well yes, and we couldn’t. But Jesus came down from heaven. Wait, Jesus? The Jesus that is God (and God’s son)? Yes, that Jesus. But how was He our sacrifice, and why would He actually come down from heaven to atone for sinners? Well Jesus was our sacrifice when He died on the cross. He came down from heaven, was born of a virgin and lived a perfect life. But most importantly He died on the cross for our sins. And they buried Him, but on the third day He rose again.

So Jesus died on the cross, but again why would He die for us on the cross?

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV John 3:16)

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (NIV Romans 5:8)

Jesus died for us because He loved (and loves) us. He gave His life for us, and took our place on the cross, because He loves us.

And like Ezekiel we need to worship God because of it. Ezekiel wasn’t worshiping God because of the cross, he (Ezekiel) didn’t know about the cross, but we can and should worship Jesus because of what He has done for us on the cross.

Are you trusting in Jesus as your savior?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
