Hi, God’s word for me today is in Lamentations 4:13 which says,
“But it happened because of the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, who shed within her the blood of the righteous.”
What happened? I mean what happened because of the sins of the prophets and the iniquities of the priests? Well the Lord’s anger was on the Israelites. And His anger was on them because of the sins and iniquities of the priests and prophets. Like shedding the blood of the righteous, and of course prophesying false prophecies that there is peace and things like that.
But believe it or not, we have the same problem. You might say that you’ve never prophesied a false prophecy and that you’ve never shed innocent blood. But you have sinned, everyone has. If you’ve even thought anything bad about anybody, then you’re a sinner. Or if you’ve lied, then you’re a sinner, you might call it a “white lie” but that doesn’t matter. And we deserve God’s anger and death, we weren’t perfect and we couldn’t find a perfect sacrifice, so we were going to die. Except for the fact that Jesus helped us.
Wait, who is Jesus? Jesus is the son of God (and God Himself). Then how did He help us? We were sinners in need of a perfect sacrifice, and Jesus was that sacrifice when He died on the cross for our sins, so He died for our sins. What? The son of God would die for ours sins like a criminal on a cross? Yes, because with our sins on Him He, in God’s eyes, was a sinner. Of course He didn’t actually do any sin so the pharisees shed innocent blood, although they were shedding the innocent blood of the one who saved them.
But why would Jesus do that, why would He actually die on a cross for sinners? Because He loved (and loves) us! Jesus loved us so much that He died for us. He loved us so much that He sacrificed His life for us, He died on the cross as a criminal because He loved us. And what we should do is worship Him. He deserves all the glory and worship.
So the Israelites were sinning and that is why they had God’s wrath and anger on them. And that is the same problem we had because we were sinners and we were going to die because of our sins. But that is why Jesus died for our sins as our atoning sacrifice,
He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for[a] the sins of the whole world.” (NIV 1 John 2:2)
Jesus died as our atoning sacrifice as a criminal on the cross, because He loved us. It is amazing that Jesus would die for our sins, we need to worship and praise Him, thank you so much Jesus.
And we have Christ’s as our example, so we aren’t under the law but we are under Christ’s example.
Are you trusting in Jesus as your atoning sacrifice?
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
