Hi, God’s word for me today is in Lamentations 3:13-14 which says,
13 He pierced my heart with arrows from his quiver. 14 I became the laughingstock of all my people; they mock me in song all day long.
Okay, so in this verse it is talking about Israel. And Israel is now (or then) the laughingstock of all the people. But why would it say “I became the laughingstock of all my people” if the people were also a laughingstock because they lived in Israel? And what happened to Israel to make this happen? Sin, Israel sinned and that is one of the reasons this happened.
And the other is to point forward to something. Jesus! Huh, how is Israel being the laughingstock of the nations compare to the son of God (and God Himself)? Well Israel sinned and that is why it was the laughingstock of the nations, and also in that verse it says that Israels heart had been pierced by God it was so bad, and that is a picture of Jesus on the cross.
Jesus, on a cross? That doesn’t make sense, Jesus is God (and the son of God), so why would He die on a cross. Plus I thought Jesus was perfect so what charge would He die from? The answer, He didn’t. He did die that isn’t what I’m talking about, what I’m saying is that there wasn’t a charge that He died from. The pharisees were jealous and plotted to kill Jesus, so after having a false court and having two false witnesses against Jesus, they took Him to Pilate and scared Pilate into crucifying Him.
And in answer to the other question, why would Jesus die on a cross, is because He loved us. Israel is also a picture of us, because Israel sinned and that is why it “died”. And we were sinners and we were going to die, but Jesus died for us. Because Jesus was (and is) perfect He was our sacrifice, because we weren’t perfect and we couldn’t find a perfect sacrifice on earth He came down from heaven to die for our sins.
Jesus died for us on the cross because He loved us, and we need to worship Him because of Him. It really is amazing that Jesus died for our sins on a cross, because all other sacrifices were animals and weren’t perfect we were going to die, but that is why Jesus came down to die for our sins.
But that isn’t the end, Jesus died for us and was buried. But on the third day He rose from the grave and, after appearing in front of thousands of people, He ascended into heaven and is preparing place for us.
Are you trusting in who died for your sins on the cross?
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
