The sermon: the magi

Hi, today the pastor preached on Mathew 2:1-12. And he had 4 points on how Jesus is worth giving, and they were:

  1. Jesus is worth giving our time
  2. Jesus is worth giving our plans
  3. Jesus is worth giving our material possessions
  4. Jesus is worth giving our safety

Alright, so in point 1 (how Jesus is worth giving our time) the pastor said that sometimes we don’t give time to God, meaning that we work and we sleep and we watch tv and of course we have to eat. So God has roughly 5 minutes each day. But we need to worship Him no matter what, we can worship Him while we spend time with family and while we eat and work, also we can worship Him when we watch tv.

But why do we need to give God our time? Because He gave us all of His on the cross. He died for us on a cross so that He could atone for our sins, and that is time taking. So He died for us and gave up His time, that is why we need to give Him our time.

And on point 2 (Jesus is worth giving our plans) the pastor said that we should be willing to give up our plans for Christ. Like if we are planning to retire and live a happy life with grand kids and be able to do whatever we want, that is fine but God might be calling you to do something different. And you should always share the gospel.

But again, we should we give up our plans for Christ? Jesus gave up His plans for us, that’s why. Jesus died for us, and He was (and is) the son of God (and God Himself), He might have “planned” something different (although of course Jesus knew He was going to die for our sins) but He didn’t.

Okay, so on point 3 (Jesus is worth giving our material possessions) the pastor said that we should give our material possessions for Christ. Like anything we might cling on to, we should give it all for Christ. But why? Because Jesus gave all of His “material possessions” for us. Jesus came down from Heaven to die for us. He left heaven to die as a criminal for our sins, as an atonement for our sins.

And on point 4 (Jesus is worth giving our safety) we should give up our safety for Christ. The pastor brought out how some missionaries die very young to spread the gospel. They might go to give the gospel to an indian tribe, and the tribe could kill them. And they might go to spread the gospel and die from deadly diseases.

And why should we give our safety for Christ? Because He gave His safety for us. Jesus died for our sins, that is definently giving up safety. So we should give up our safety because Jesus did for us.

That is my “short” summary of the pastor’s sermon, I hope you enjoyed it.

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
