Hi, God’s word for me today is in Jeremiah 49:11 which says,
“Leave your orphans; I will protect their lives. Your widows too can trust in me.”
In this verse the Lord is talking to the Edomites (or Esau) and He is saying that the orphans and widows can trust in Him. Those who were helpless and in need of someone to rescue them, that’s who the Lord was going to help. The Bible says somewhere (Mark 2:17) that it is the sick who need a doctor and not the healthy, and the same concept is in this verse, those who are helpless need help.
And just like everything else, the widows and the orphans are a picture, what of? Us! How are they a picture of us? Because the widows and orphans were helpless, just like us. We were helpless spiritually, meaning that we had sin that we couldn’t get rid of or stop and that meant that we were going to die because the Lord requires perfection but that’s where the Lord comes to our aid.
In my last post I talked about how Ammonites were trusting in their riches, but in the verse in Jeremiah the widows and orphans were trusting in the Lord who rescued them. And that’s the same with us, only the Lord rescues us and that’s why we trust in Him. So how did the Lord rescue us? By dying on the cross!
We were dead in our sins and of course we couldn’t raise ourselves from the dead, and no one else could either because they were all dead. Not understanding me? I mean spiritually, we were dead in our sins and trespasses. Anyway we were dead and we couldn’t raise our selves from the dead. But Jesus died for us, He was our sacrifice. We had to be perfect or have a perfect sacrifice to live, and Jesus was that sacrifice!
But if all of us weren’t perfect how was Jesus perfect, who is Jesus? Jesus was (and is) perfect because He was (and is) the son of God. Although Jesus is also God because Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit are 3 in 1. But Jesus is perfect and He was perfect and He died for our sins!
But another question is why would He die for our sins? Well He died for our sins because He loves us! He loved us so much that He came down from heaven to atone for our sins by dying on the cross! He was and is our atoning sacrifice, He was and is the sacrifice that we needed to live!
We were helpless and needed a savior, and Jesus was that savior! Also the Ammonites were trusting in their riches but that didn’t help them, they thought that they wouldn’t every be attacked or hurt. And that is where America is headed, we are a nation that is trusting in money, not God. And we need to start trusting in God, because what happened to the Ammonites could happen to us to help us to realize that we need to start trusting in God and not in money!
But anyway the Lord saved us from our sins by dying on the cross for us, and not we need to worship Him!
Are you trusting in Jesus’ wonderful, amazing and atoning sacrifice?
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
