Hi, God’s word for me today is in Jeremiah 48:39 which says,
How shattered she is! How they wail! How Moab turns her back in shame! Moab has become an object of ridicule, an object of horror to all those around her.”
In this verse Moab is being described as an object of horror to everyone. So Moab is and object of ridicule, and object of horror, is shattered and is full of shame. And why is Moab an object of ridicule? Because of sin. Moab was sinful like everyone and because the Lord can’t stand sin, He was punishing Moab.
And Moab is a picture of something. What of? Us and Jesus. How? Well Moab is a picture of us because we (before we were saved) were sinful and so was Moab. To the Lord we were objects of horror.
“All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.” (NIV Ephesians 2:3)
So we were objects of wrath or horror, just like Moab. Alright, Moab is a picture of us, but how is Moab a picture of Jesus you ask. Well Moab is a picture of Jesus because Moab was shattered had shame, was an object of ridicule and was an object of horror. And Jesus had the shame of our sins on Him, and Jesus was shattered, Jesus was and object of ridicule and Jesus was an object of horror.
Lets start with how Jesus had shame on Him. Jesus had shame on Him because He died on the cross with our sins on Him. And sins bring shame. Also how was Jesus shattered? Well He not only died on the cross but was whipped more than 39 times which was as high as the Romans would go for a beating because they thought that if you were whipped 40 times you died. So anyway Jesus was whipped with a whip that had thorns and shattered pieces of glass, more than 39 times. So Jesus was shattered or broken.
And how was Jesus an object of ridicule? He was hung on a cross which was the punishment for the worst criminals! And He was mocked and spit on when He was going to be hung on the cross. And the last thing is, how was Jesus and object of horror. Somewhere in the Bible it says that Jesus was not able to be recognized as a man, so He was an object of horror.
But why would He go through all this? To save us from our sins! He loved us so much that He died on the cross to save us from our sins!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Jesus loved us so much that He died of our sins. It is amazing that the son of God (although Jesus is God because Jesus, God and the Holy spirit are 3 in 1) would die for our sins!
Are you trusting in Jesus as your savior?
