Hi, God’s word for me today is in Jeremiah 40:10 which,

” I myself will stay at Mizpah to represent you before the Babylonians who come to us, but you are to harvest the wine, summer fruit and oil, and put them in your storage jars, and live in the towns you have taken over.”

The king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah over the Israelites and he is talking in this verse. And Gedaliah says that he will represent them before the Babylonians himself. But later Gedaliah gets assaulted by Ishmael. Anyway Gedaliah would be their mediator, he himself would go between them and the Babylonians.

If you don’t get where I’m going with this, let me explain. Gedaliah is a picture of Jesus! How? Because he went before the Babylonians for the Israelites, he would be their mediator, and Jesus went before us and God. Jesus was (and is) our mediator. One thing is that Gedaliah didn’t exactly give up his life, it was taken from him. And Jesus did give up His life,

“The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again.” (NIV John 10:17)

Jesus laid down His life for us. He went in-between us and God. Because we were sinners Jesus died for us. Of course we still sin because we have flesh, but sin isn’t our master. But anyway Jesus covered our sins with His blood, He took our place on the cross. We should have been on that cross, but Jesus took our place.

Jesus was (and is) our mediator. Like a shepherd and his sheep, if a wolf comes and tries to take a sheep the shepherd will come in-between them and whack at the wolf with his staff. Anyway Jesus is our shepherd and we are His sheep.

Are you a part of Jesus herd of sheep?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
