Freedom for slaves

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Jeremiah 34:14 which says,

Every seventh year each of you must free any fellow Hebrew who has sold himself to you. After he has served you six years, you must let him go free.’Your fathers, however, did not listen to me or pay attention to me. “

If you look in Deuteronomy and the books around that you’ll find that they did have slaves and they could keep them until the sixth year. But they weren’t obeying God and setting their slaves free. They wanted to keep their slaves even though God told them not to.

Anyway they were disobeying God. And this is also a picture of us and Jesus. How? Because we were captive in our sins, we were slaves to our sins and to the law. But Jesus died for us, and He set us free, not only His “Hebrew brothers” but everyone. And we become Christ’ brothers and sisters when we accept Jesus. Anyway we were like the slaves in Jeremiah and Jesus set us free, thank you Jesus.

The Israelites owned slaves and had them work for them, and we were slaves to our original master, satin. But Jesus is our new master, because He died for our sins, He is the atoning sacrifice for all of the sins and wrongs that we’ve done!

“He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” (NIV 1 John 2:2)

Jesus loved (and still loves) us so much that He died for our sins on the cross, He broke the chains that we had since birth. I know I’m saying that a lot, but it’s important to know that in Christ we have freedom. If you’re not in Christ then do you want to accept Him as you savior? If so pray this prayer with me, or something like it,

“Dear heavenly father, please forgive me for the sins that I’ve done, thank you for sending your son to die for me.

Jesus died on the cross to set us free from our chains of sin.

Are you trusting in Jesus as your savior?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
