Hi, God’s word for me today is in Jeremiah 17:27 which says, “But if you do not obey me to keep the Sabbath day holy by not carrying any load as you come through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle an unquenchable fire in the gates of Jerusalem that will consume her fortresses.”
They had to obey God perfectly! They had to keep the Sabbath day holy. They would be disobeying God if they even carried a load into the gates of Jerusalem. God requires perfection from us, but we can’t be perfect, and neither could the Israelites. And if they didn’t the Lord would kindle a fire at the gates that would consume her fortresses!
No one could be perfect and we can’t either and that is why Jesus came to die for us. Because we can’t obey God perfectly, Jesus did for us, He died on the cross for us! Jesus died for our sins on the cross so that we wouldn’t have to have God’s wrath on us, thank you so much Jesus. He took the punishment for us.
Jesus died for us, but that doesn’t mean that we should keep on sinning because Jesus forgave us of our sins, ”
Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? (ESV Romans 5:21-22 & Romans 6:1-3)
We are dead to our sins and alive in Christ.
Are you trusting in Jesus sacrifice?
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
