The balm in Gilead

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Jeremiah 8:22 which says, “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people.”

Well when Jeremiah says things like “is there no balm of Gilead” or “is there no physician” and asks why the wound of his people is not healed, he knows that God had said that He would be the balm of Gilead and the physician. But the Israelites had sinned so that God could not stay there.

God is and was the balm of Gilead. He heals us not only physically but spiritually. The Israelites had to offer sacrifices to atone for their sins but they started to think that they could do as they wanted and still offer sacrifices to have their sins atoned for. And you can’t do that. But we have Jesus.

Jesus died for our sins on the cross. We had sins and we needed to be healed of them, we couldn’t cure ourselves but Jesus died, ”

And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (ESV Luke 5:31-32)

Jesus is saying that the pharisees thought they were righteous. But all of us are sinners and we need to come to the physician Jesus.

Jesus is our balm of Gilead, He cleansed us from our sins He healed us from our disease.

Are you trusting in Jesus the great physician, and how He can heal you?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
