Circumcision… of the heart?

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Jeremiah 4:4 which says, “Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, circumcise your hearts, you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem, or my wrath will break out and burn like fire because of the evil you have done- burn with no one to quench it.”

I know it sounds weird when Jeremiah says that the Israelites should circumcise their hearts but he doesn’t mean physically. He is telling them to purge their hearts from sin, but no one can do that. So if we all sin and no one can stop sinning what did they do and what do we do? They offered sacrifices and looked forward to the savior (Christ). But for us we don’t do that anymore, we trust in Christ sacrifice.

Jesus died for our sins on the cross, we can’t circumcise our hearts but Jesus did for us, ”

But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God. (ESV Romans 2:29)

Circumcision is a matter of the heart, and Jesus circumcised our hearts for us,”

In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. (ESV Colossians 2:11-12)

Jesus died for us on the cross to save us from our sins, we need to praise God. We can’t cleanse ourselves from sin, but Jesus did for us, we still sin but Jesus did cleanse us from it.

Are you trusting in Jesus and have you accepted that He circumcised your heart, because you can’t on your own?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
