Hi, God’s word for me today is in Jeremiah 2:13 which says, “My people have committed two sins: they have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”
So the Israelite’s had forsaken God, and they dug their own cisterns. They thought that they could “get water” by using their own wisdom. But Jesus said in John 4 that He was (and is) the living water, and Jesus is God (Jesus God and the Holy Spirit are 3 in 1) so they rejected the living water.
They chose to drink from their broken cisterns! The Lord is the only one who can help us, without Him we wouldn’t be here. Jesus gave the woman at the well His living water,
“Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” (ESV John 4:10)
They weren’t trusting in God. Even though He was (and is) the living water. He’s also the living water for us, we were in our sins and we were dying. But Jesus came and gave us the living water, He took our thirst on Him,
“After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” (ESV John 19:28)
Jesus took our sins on Him, He died for us, thank you Jesus. He thirsted for us on the cross!
Jesus died for our sins, and He took on our sins and our thirst, for us. We should trust in Jesus and not rely on our own “cisterns” like the Israelite’s did.
Are you trusting in God, and that He died for our sins on the cross?
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
